The difference between 11R22.5 and 11R24.5

Updated: Jul 10, 2023

11R22.5 Tyres

Some tyres have codes that say something about their performance for your vehicle. The code 11R22.5 means 11 = Section width in inches. R = Radial Tire. 22.5 = Rim diameter and rim type. This tyre was designed for light trucks and vans. The 24.5 on the end of the code means that this tire is wider than the original at 24.5 inches wide. It is designed for use with heavy trucks and larger vehicles. If you have a smaller vehicle, using a wider tire can adversely affect your fuel economy and handling abilities. When making a switch to a heavier-duty tire, make sure your brakes, suspension, and steering are up to par or you could risk an accident.

As with most things, there are pros and cons to using either a 11R22.5 or 11R24.5 tyre. The main benefit of the 11R22.5 is that it is more fuel efficient due to its smaller size. It is also lighter weight, which makes it a good choice for lighter vehicles who don’t need to carry heavy loads. The downside is that this tyre doesn’t handle as well as the wider 24.5 version, especially in wet or icy conditions. If you live in an area with lots of bad weather, the 11R24.5 might be a better choice for you.

The 24.5 version is heavier, which can impact fuel economy, but it provides better handling and braking in adverse conditions. It is also a good choice for vehicles that frequently travel long distances or that need to carry large and heavy loads from city to city. The only drawback is that it takes up more space on your vehicle, so if you have a smaller car or truck, the 11R22.5 might be a better option.

When you're loading your truck, there are a few important things to remember. The first is that the tyres cannot exceed 6175 lbs of weight and their inflation pressure should be at 105psi or above with no reduction in quality suggested by manufacturers due increasing load ranges which will decrease wear and tear on vehicle components over time as well increase traction during slippery conditions like snowstorms where extra grip may make all difference between getting home safely versus missing everything happening around us today!

In the end, it’s up to you which tyre size you choose for your vehicle. Consider your needs and the conditions in which you drive to make the best decision for you. Always consult with a trusted mechanic to get their professional opinion before making any changes.

All things considered, the best choice for you depends on your specific needs and driving habits. If you’re not sure which tyre is right for you, contact a reliable garage for advice. They will be able to help you choose the best option for your vehicle and your lifestyle.
