Why is wheel alignment necessary?

Misaligned wheels can lead to uneven tyre wear, resulting in you needing to replace tyres sooner. In addition, you may experience poor vehicle handling and reduced fuel efficiency with misaligned wheels.

Why do wheels get out of alignment?

Wheels naturally come out of alignment over time, but can also become misaligned after a driving incident that throws the alignment off. Getting the issue addressed promptly will help ensure your tyres wear evenly and make for a safer, more economical drive.

What’s involved in wheel alignment?

At Double D Tyres, a wheel alignment looks like this:

  • We inspect your vehicle for rapid tyre wear and wear on the suspension and steering components.
  • If a wheel alignment is required, we place your vehicle on an alignment rack to measure the current alignment.
  • We adjust the alignment to bring your wheels within the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications, and ensure that wheels are correctly positioned for straight tracking, even tyre wear, and optimal handling. Adjustments address issues such as:
    • Camber, caster, and toe angles – control how the wheels tilt, steer, and track on the road.
    • Ride height (where applicable) – affects suspension geometry and overall alignment angles.
    • Thrust angle alignment – ensures the rear wheels are aligned so the vehicle tracks straight.

In addition to performing a wheel alignment, we may also perform wheel balancing, particularly if we’re fitting new tyres, rotating existing ones, or have noticed uneven tyre wear. Wheel balancing involves placing small weights on a tyre or wheel to ensure the weight is evenly distributed and the wheel spins without vibrating.

How long does a wheel alignment take?

A standard wheel alignment should take between 30 and 60 minutes, but if repairs or adjustments are required, it may take longer.
